This summer, the Long Island Health Collaborative invites Long Islanders to take health education in stride. Sponsored by AARP Long Island and the Long Island Greenbelt Trail Conference, the Collaborative is hosting a series of free Healthy Hikes to provide tips for healthier living, engaging in physical activity, and facilitating conversations about current health topics.
Physical activity can help prevent chronic diseases and enhance both mental and physical well-being. Regardless of age or experience level, walking is a beneficial and accessible form of exercise for most. These hikes provide the opportunity to kickstart a healthy habit and meet like-minded people interested in improving their health and lifestyle.
To add to the health benefits of the Healthy Hike series, our Healthy Hikes are held through the LIHC’s Walk with a Doc chapter, a national evidence-based walking program. Each event will be led by a physician who will speak on a current health topic, deliver health education, and provide tips for improved wellness. After their brief talk, our docs will join walkers for their hike to foster further conversation.
From July to August, these Healthy Hikes will take place on the last Friday of each month at 9 AM. Each hiking event will be free and open to the public. For more information about the Long Island Health Collaborative’s Healthy Hikes, contact us at 631-963-4167 or lihc@nshc.org.
