This six-hour class will examine the emerging trends in suicide in the United States. The rise in suicide rates among middle age women and school age girls are just two of the groups that will be looked at. Various tools for suicide prevention with children and adults will be discussed. This workshop will also look at the increasingly important task of supporting survivors after a suicide loss and the role that plays in suicide prevention. The special needs of children after a suicide loss with emphasis on what are age appropriate responses and information children should be given. The needs of the family and significant others after a suicide loss will also be discussed.
