 This workshop will cover a brief history of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) in K-12 schools.  The application of SEL in the proactive management of youth mental health during the COVID-19 transition back to school will also be discussed.  Evidence-based curricula will be reviewed as well as mindfulness strategies that can be implemented. Participants will engage in a live demonstration of these mindfulness practices.

 

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will be able to describe the origins of SEL and mindfulness strategies in the K-12 classroom
  • Participants will be able to provide a rationale for the use of SEL to enhance learner readiness
  • Participants will be able to facilitate three basic mindfulness practices: belly breathing, mindful walking, guided visualization
