The Impact of Race and Oppression in our Practice and its Profound Relevance Related to Suicide and Healing
Many of our survivors of suicide suffer in silence through feelings of isolation from their immediate communities or by the oppressive systems ingrained in many communities of color. The stressors of systemic racism has had a long last impact on BIPOC communities across this country. With such large, mounting obstacle specific communities face, how do we create opportunities for healing?
This talk will focus on strategies to build connections and bridges with victims of violence who lack trust in the oppressive systems in place. It will look at case studies across the country to illustrate interventions to engage with BIPOC victims. This talk will also highlight how maintaining a race and equity lens in working with all victims can improve delivery of services and outreach strategies.
