Event Link: Clinical Implications of Working with Immigrant Youth and their Families
This presentation will focus on the clinical considerations of working with immigrant families with young children. It will provide an overview of the impact of trauma on young children’s development and relationships with primary caregivers.
Therapeutic strategies for supporting healing will be discussed.The session will also give participants an opportunity to reflect on their experiences working with immigrant families, as well as consider strategies for self-care.
Discussion will include the impact of the COVID experience on this population, as well as considerations for providing services through remote means.
- Participants will gain knowledge of the factors that contribute to families leaving their home countries.
- Participants will increase their understanding of the effects of trauma on young children and their families.
- Participants will increase their knowledge about how to serve immigrant children and their families in developmentally and diversity-informed ways.
- Participants will identify strategies for addressing vicarious trauma.
