The Developmental Disabilities Institute welcomes you to attend a workshop on "Parent Recognition of Epilepsy in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder: The First Step in Treatment" presented by Dr. David J. Anschel, Founding Director of the Comprehensive Epilepsy Center at St. Charles Hospital.

It is estimated that as many as 1/3 of individuals with autism spectrum disorder also have epilepsy. Experts propose that some of the brain abnormalities that are associated with autism may contribute to seizures and that this correlation may be "reciprocal".

Dr. David Anschel is the founding Director of the Comprehensive Epilepsy Center of Long Island at St. Charles Hospital. A Prolific author, he has published more than 70 scientific papers, abstracts and book chapters, as well as authoring two books widely used by medical students and residents in neurology training. Dr. Anschel is board certified in neurology, clinical neurophysiology and epilepsy.

Refreshments will be served.
